Apparently there was a memo distributed to the majority of developers stating that players, in fact, do not need/want cooperative play in games. I'm unsure who circulated this memo but it seems to have made its way to every major development house with only a few minor exceptions. Let me clarify for any developers which may read this: Not all gamers are serial killing 13 year olds hopped up on coca-cola and candy bars. Some gamers actually ENJOY cooperating with other humans against AI opponents. When you have only deathmatch you force a situation in which you may have one side which is massively more skilled than the other side. That is part of the reason so many people shy away from deathmatch type games, especially the guy who only has a few hours to play a night. Why go get raped by a 13 year old who has 8 hours a night to play Quake3, where is the fun in that? With an AI opponent you can *scale* the difficulty to make it a challenge without being too easy or impossible. Hopefully by some act of God developers will get this memo above, becuase right now, coop play is looking real bleak...
