If you set the difficulty level of the opponent down
to the bottom 2 settings, you can usually walk right in and fire a
shot right through the goalie's 5-hole. On the upper levels, these golies
behave like real NHL goalies and stop just about every shot they can see.
The answer? a pass across the goal to an open winger (or let the computer
pass to your player when you are open). Wayne Gretzky and before him Bobby
Orr used to be masters of the wraparound shot. Skate behind the goal and
wrap the puck into the net from behind using the blade of the stick as a
hook (never could master that shot in the game :-)

I've seen this shot tried once in real life. Ray Bourque of the Bruins
fired a last second shot while standing next to his goalie. Peter
Sidorkiewicz (sp?), the Whalers goalie, must have been watching the clock
for the end of the period because the puck was about 3-4 feet away when he
finally saw it. He practically jumped out of his pads to make a last second
save. If he had been watching the shot he could have ordered a pizza and
still made the save. The play made the hockey highlight films it was so rare.
I don't think it should be a repeatable shot! :-)
