I'd be interested in hearing from PzG owners who have an actual Creative Labs SB16 and who are using digitized sounds in the game without experiencing lockups. If there are any, that is! :D ------------------------------------------------------------ |---RichC----------------------------Interfacing is easy---| |---rdclark@aol.com-------Compatibility takes a lifetime---| ------------------------------------------------------------

I'm currently using CD-ROM PzG 1.0 with NO patches whatsoever with SB. I have yet to find a bug (incl. the "freeze"). I've played the game for hours (sometimes 8-hr marathons) with never a problem.... k

I own an SB16 ASP. I bought it a little over two years ago when there was only one version of the SB16. I own the CD version of PzG (v1.0) and played for quite a while a never had a problem. A few months ago I applied the v1.2 patch and since then have had only one lockup. My SB16 is set up with default settings and with all my games I run with the default SB16 settings. I also run QEMM v7.5 on a Gateway2000 486 DX2/66. My SB drivers are also the original ones that came with the board. (Everything works fine. I didn't feel the need to update them. :) Hope this helps. Actually, I did have the system lock up when I was on version 1.0, but switching off the animations cleared that one. I don't think this was down to the SB16. I am on the floppy disk version (patched). Cheers. Martin.

So, now I simply save the game often and play for hours >at a time without a lock up. But if I don't save it---you got it, it >locks up with the explosion sound. Strange. I've had much the same experience. I didn't turn off the animations. I like to watch them and tend to buy new units just to see what their animation is. After playing while saving frequently, I found that I don't need to save as long as I let all the sound effects finish before moving the mouse (and especially before clicking or scrolling). Since I started doing that, I haven't had a single lockup. I found that waiting for the movement sounds was especially important. If I forget to wait, I generally immediately save (otherwise the next combat will often lock up). My only guess is that the lockup is due to a bus or disk conflict/bottle neck, so letting the sounds end allows all the data off the bus. Saving the game would force the slow disk write which again clears everything off the bus. Now that I've gotten into the habit of waiting, I don't find it to be a problem--especially when compared with many of the other games on the market.
