You implied otherwise. > And, MS-DOS is very very present in Win95, like it or not. > As far as the best PC based GUI, I'd say X on top of Linux, > but that's just because it's free. OS/2 is decent. But Win95 programming and use are identical to NT. The apps are interchangeable, and the only difference that is apparent to the user is that it says NT on the Start menu, unless he tried to set up hardware. Win95 is much, much closer to NT than it is to DOS. > BTW, whether the GUI is an OS or OE *does* make a difference. > How many people who use Win 3.1 have had trouble because they > didn't know how to edit config.sys.suck.my.dick? > Too many to count. NT used config files, too, as does OS/2 (well, it did in version 3.0, when I ran it). The config files have nothing to do with GUI vs. CLI. They're just implementation, and could just as easily be used on a Mac. (Although they're generally not because of the Mac resource fork. File system, not GUI). > > He did not say he had never heard of Rhapsody. Read the friggin' post > > before you flame it! I'd go so far as to say he's never even seen a computer. Ummm, it seems a bit silly to have to point this out, but he would have had to have seen a computer in order to post. I would go so far as to say that he had even used one. > He just heard about them on tv. Rhapsody hasn't been released yet > but if you actually READ the press releases and white papers you > would be able to make some sort of conjecture as to it's worth. If there's anything you should have learned by now, it's that press releases and white papers do not necessarily reflect the final released product. Conjecture all you want, but you can't really judge Rhapsody's worth until you've used it (or at least spoken extensively with people who have). > > WRT knowing more than peope with Ph.D.s in CS, he did not say Ph.D., > > he said degree. I know more about these areas than many doctoral candidates I > > know, and I'm just an incoming freshman. > > Ahhh, so that makes you a genius, right? No, it means I know a lot about computers. In the same way that you know a lot about pissantry. What I was saying was that the doctoral candidates did not know all that much. Knowing more than them is not very difficult. > Please, enlighten us as to Hardware & Software...please. > As far as you knowing more than grad students, ummm, okay. > All the ones I know have no lives (literally) and work > 20 hours a day in the lab. Wonderful existence, I am sure. > But I bet they know something about hardware and software > considering they use the shit 24-7. Most of the grad students I know are more interesting than that. They have lives, get out on evenings and weekends, have girlfriends/boyfriends, etc. They know how to program, and in their areas of expertise are way beyond my comprehension, but their areas of expertise are not hardware or OSes. When they have a computer crash, want to know how to convert a batch of image files, want to hook up a digital camera, etc., they come to me. > > And he does not go to any college, he goes to high school or lower: > > note the use of the word "teacher" rather than "professor" or > > "instructor." No, we can't. We are a bunch of miserable losers who sit in front of our computers waiting for people like you to make a comment we can pounce on. :) > Get the sticks out of your asses. Everytime you post, it gets shoved > up a little bit further. > (yes, I am directly attacking you. I don't have to, but this is more fun) And does a lot for the argument, I'm sure. What does any of this have to do with Mac vs. PC? -Andy
