| Why am I against STEAM?
| Wrote it plenty of times before but I don't have any problem doing it
| again...
|
| . Kills Privacy in single-player PC Games
| It makes me create an account and give my email address to play a
| Retail single player game I bought in a store, hence killing my
| privacy and my right to play single-player games anonymously

To make sure you are a real valid player and not a PIRATE!!!

| . Uses Product Activation in Retail PC Games
| It makes me Product "humiliating ask for permission to use" Activate a
| Retail single-player game that for me is totally against my consumer
| rights cause I don't have to ask for permission to use something I
| just bought!

To make sure the game is a true retail copy and not PIRATED!!!

| . Uses Monitoring/Surveillance system mandatory to play PC Games
| It makes me have a internet connection to play a single-player game
| for Valve to monitor me just like a THIEF and turn my PC into a PRISON
| and turn me into one of their SLAVES

To make sure that you haven't lent the game to friend and aren't both
playing at the same time, which would make you PIRATES!!! Also gives
developers feedback to know which games seem to be working and
which are steaming piles of smelly dung. But it would be nice to be
able to opt out of the gameplay monitoring, other than just the check to
be sure the current game isn't already in play on another system.

| . Makes Consumer stupid and dumb
| It makes me have ZERO control to how I can play the game, patch the
| game, install the game, turning me into a DUMB consumer that only
| pays, plays and SHUTS-UP

Well, it doesn't MAKE consumers stupid, but it sort of implies that a
group of them might be. The idea is to try to make the game experience
as seamless as possible, by automating the process of updates and
patches... They basically want the PC game experience to rival the
simplicity of a console game - no stupid patches to watch for, find the
download site, install, then finally get to the game. This would not
even be a discussion of PC game developers actually FINISHED the
games before releasing them. But, a method for opting out or doing
manual patching would suffice (except for games played online with
other players, of course - all must have the same versions)

| . Makes Customer totally dependant on Provider
| It makes me total dependant on them, making them my Master, meaning I
| will only play the game when Master Valve wants, I will only patch the
| game when Master Valve wants, I will only play the games Valve wants

You have real control issues, don't you?

| . Turns PC Games into a SERVICE BASED SYSTEM
| Probably what is in the core of my fight against STEAM is what in fact
| STEAM is all about... turning PC Games into a SERVICE, and like in
| anything for the PC, I will always fight against that, the PC is not a
| dumb terminal connected to a Master server, I will never ever use and
| pay for software to be a "SERVICE", and this also applies to any other
| software besides PC Games, being it a Office suite or a Media
| Player... I will simply never ever pay and use Software if its in a
| form of "SERVICE", which is what STEAM is precisely

Sorry to inform you, but this is a service-reliant world. Cable TV? A
service. Internet access? A service. Hell, there's even popular services
where you can play tons of popular games (like gametap) or even rent
console games and have them delivered right to your door. Yes, Steam
is a service - do they ever claim otherwise? Valve is a company, Steam is
a service. HL2 is a program, which you pay for, Steam is the free service
that can provide it to you and keep it up-to-date. Get your facts straight.

| . Total disrespect for consumer rights
| And adding to all this they are using ARROGANT, MONOPOLISTIC,
| AUTHORITARIAN means to accomplish this, cause they force every into
| it, they force everyone to use STEAM even the customers that bought a
| Retail single-player game
| They are forcing Retail customers to use an electronic distribution
| system for them to have power and control the customer
| Removing choice, freedom and forcing all to use STEAM
| Totally unacceptable, TOTALLY

Face it... Online distribution and management of software titles is both
easier and more efficient for the game developer, which helps encourage
them to keep making games for the PC... Which is what you are always
saying is a problem - PC developers moving to consoles.

| Bottom line
| I don't have any problem if you like STEAM
| I don't have any problem if many willingly choose STEAM
| What I don't admit is anyone telling for me to continue being a PC
| Gamer I have to become a STEAM SLAVE and have no choice
| What I don't admit is the DIRTY TACTICS totally against consumer
| rights Valve are using to IMPOSE STEAM in PC Games
| What I will not admit is Valve REMOVING CHOICE and making those not
| wanting to use STEAM have no alternative than to give up PC Gaming

Your choice. If you don't like Steam, don't ever play any of the great
games they handle, or use any of the handy services they provide.

| I've said this time and time again
| I'm not an HYPOCRITE
| My main motivation behind the fight against PIRACY is STEAM
| STEAM is my nightmare
| I want to continue playing PC Games and not be forced to use STEAM
| I don't want a STEAM MONOPOLY in PC Games
| And what helps Valve get that MONOPOLY? One of the things is PIRACY
| Since day one Valve has gave as excuse PIRACY to IMPOSE STEAM
| Yes we all know that is incorrect cause STEAM games are also pirated
| like any other, but what is important is the perception... if the
| general perception is PC Games is dominated with PIRACY and PIRACY is
| creating anarchy in PC Games, Valve will sell itself as a savior and
| STEAM and the savior solution and that is what I fight against
| STEAM is a PRISON created in your own PC making the customer a SLAVE
| and turning Valve into a all might powerful Master
| Its that really what I fight against
| If it wasn't for STEAM I would not fight so hard against PIRACY

So when exactly do they increase your meds dosage? Valve saw a few
needs, one of the big ones being PIRACY, which is your adopted cause,
and decided to try to do something about it. Steam evolved out of that
need to fight PIRACY and streamline some of the delivery systems for the
games themselves, as well as patching of those buggy games. As almost
everyone here has said, Steam is not perfect, but it has some serious merit
in the fight against PIRACY, so why not stop fighting the machine and
start trying to fix what is wrong with it?
