So it's clear that piracy isn't the | | My thread speaks about a particular developer, id Software | id Software a long time PC developer has made the decision to switch | to console development and the reason they gave was PC Piracy | They specifically say Piracy in the PC is much worse than in consoles | You say they are lying? | Well that doesn't change the fact they switched to consoles for their | primary gaming platform | | > I'm really surprised you haven't started evangelizing about what I feel is | > the REAL path for saving PC games - independent publishers. | | Valve is independent and its abusive | I don't give a damn about independency if you use that independency to | ABUSE and disrespect consumer rights | Yes I don't like big monopolistic corporations like EA or Microsoft, | but Valve even being small and independent has exactly the same ways, | meaning greed, lust for power and monopoly and doing everything to get | it including disrespecting customers and consumer rights | You totally missed 2 of the main points that Mr. Jacobs was trying to make... First, the SMALLER independent companies are making the new fresh progressive games... Not the old big companies (such as id and Valve) that churn out just more of the same time and time again... Second, piracy is rampant in the console industry too... Funny, but they don't seem to be all worried and paranoid about the industry that they are flocking TOWARDS, now do they? Ever stop to wonder why that is? It's because the console market is HUGE, and even with a big chunk taken out for piracy, console game developers make serious money. If the console market is twice the size of the PC market (a very conservative estimate for simplicity), then it stands to reason that any developer moving to consoles would have a good chance of selling many more units of their product. Oh, and add into that equation the fact that some proprietary hardware and software (as in copy protection) are incorporated into the console equipment, making it much more difficult (but still not impossible) to pirate... See, game developers can move to consoles where they can have a reasonably more secure product, without a bunch of whiners screaming about how their rights are being trampled on and how copy protection or registration are evil and should be smitten... In consoles, it's all part of the product, it's seamless and invisible to the user, and most don't even know it exists - and if they did, so what, they can either deal with it or scrap their console and move on. In the end, the move is all about money and not having to deal with absolute ignorant fanatics who spout anti-piracy propoganda at the drop of a hat, yet instantly scream foul at any attempts made to protect games and help curb the piracy epidemic. Personally, I can't blame id... More money, less dealing with hypocritical psychos... Where's the down side to it all? CoinSpin
