You would no longer be free. | | I don't want to provoke but I do feel STEAM is a very similar | equivalent to fascism | | You have to be identified, you have a number, and they know who you | are, typical of fascism, there is no right for privacy | STEAM forces you to create an account only to play a single-player | game | | If you behave BAD and behaving BAD is something only they have the | right to define you are excluded, also typical of fascism | Valve has repeatedly banned customers, paying customers from their | service and acting like some sort of "God" | | You are monitored and surveillance systems are used everywhere again | very typical of fascism | STEAM has to always be running and be resident in memory, you simply | can't play any game without STEAM running, its always monitoring you | | You don't have will of your own, you do what you are told and you only | do it when "they" want it | Each time you want to play, STEAM has to authorize it and STEAM also | uses discretionary power to what you can play cause you don't have | direct access to the content and STEAM can change it at will | | You do as less as possible and you are treated like a dumb almost | retarded cause this way its the best excuse to remove freedom from you | With STEAM everything is automatic, installing, patching, backing-up | you don't do anything you just pay and play and let STEAM make the | decisions so its creating a generation of IGNORANT PC Gamers and the | more ignorant they are the easiest they are manipulated | | You only have access to what they approve, censorship, everything has | to pass through censorship, also typical of fascism | Cause STEAM is proprietary and only controlled by Valve and not | accessible to anyone else they only license what they want | | You are at the bottom and they are at the top, you are less than they | are and there is no "equality" | Valve with its STEAM spy agent has all the POWER, and you have none | You are a SLAVE they are the Master | | My main motivation to fight against PIRACY is Valve/STEAM | Just like in fascism, STEAM gains from anarchy and crisis | Every time you see a crisis some tries to take advantage of it by | trying to pass as a messiah, a savior, which is nothing more than a | dictator in disguise | For Valve/STEAM, PIRACY is perfect cause its causing anarchy and | crisis in PC Games and this way Valve can appear and say to all | "Don't fear, we have the solution for the PC Game crisis, its called | STEAM (Dictatorship) and I will help you (becoming a Dictator) | | Its said a needed Valve/STEAM to see how dangerous PIRACY is | Its like taking democracy for granted just cause you never lived in a | dictatorship regime... that is really very dangerous | | > Don't throw that word around lightly, lest we find that we no longer have a | > word for *actual* fascists. | | Exactly! | | For me the key word in Democracy should be | Never take it for granted, never and thank everyday for having it | And being responsible is essential, cause only this way you defend | Democracy | Irresponsibility leads to anarchy and anarchy is perfect for Fascists | *sigh* somehow I knew a STEAM rant would be coming, but I held out hope until the end... I just find it so ironic that someone could put so much time and effort into a post about doing everything we can to keep the PC gaming market alive by maximizing profits for the game producers, yet they froth at the mouth and point at STEAM as a demon that must be smitten - STEAM, a system that maximizes profit by helping to eliminate costs of pressing, packaging, and the percentage cut the middle man gets... And (again, ironically) it would eliminate the piracy element of your original post, and discourage any 2nd hand market... So STEAM and similar services fit perfectly into your argument to save PC games, but they are evil and must be destroyed... Am I the only one that finds that logic completely schizophrenic and hypocritical? Is STEAM perfect? Hell no, but it represents what could (and most agree will) be the future, a big step forward in providing content and maximizing profits for the producers... There will be more and more of the STEAM type of publishers & providers out there, and guess what? Those providers will give us easy access to new PC games, be able to track what does well and what sucks, and provide that feedback to game producers to help refine the quality of future games... But, I'm wasting my time... You see STEAM as a devil, and are too focused on its demise to see that bringing it down would actually hurt the PC games industry more than it would ever help it... As with all rebellions, the leaders sit and say what should be, while the people (in this case, the consumers) are the ones that pay the price and experience the hardships... CoinSpin
