False conclusion based on a bunch of assumptions:

assumption 1) your friend ALWAYS have a copy of what you wanted
assumption 2) 2nd hand market ALWAYS have a copy of what you wanted
assumption 3) stuff's already available as warez
assumption 4) you actually can afford ANY game you want
assumption 5) the store always have what you wanted in stock

I'll leave assumption 5 out since it makes the discussion rather moot if
the
game in question is not available.

Unless it's a lousy console game you can really "finish" in a weekend,
there's
no way you'll find a used copy or a copy available from a friend within
the
first two or three weeks of release any way. And if the developers and
copy protection do their job, nor will the pirated copy. Those generally
appear about 1 to 2 weeks after the official release, and even then they
often
run into problems, and it generally takes 3-4 weeks to see stable warez.

The developers, distributors, and retailers knows all this. The first 30
days
of a release sees 80% of the sales revenue. After that, discounts,
warez,
and such take their toll so that the overall revenue increase will be
minimal.

If you really want to FULLY SUPPORT the PC game market, i.e. make
sure you pump the MAX amount of your dollars into the industry, you need
to buy the game at FULL PRICE, the day the game comes out.

However, your original assumption also left out a couple more factors:

a) If I can borrow "the game" from my friend, what would I do with the
$$$
I originally allocated for "the game"? Should I buy "the other game"
with it, so
I can lend it to my friend so we'd be even and he won't call me a leech?

b) If I can buy "the game" at 2nd hand store, thus save 50% (assume $25
savings)
off retail, what would I do with that $25? Could I get another 2nd hand
game
with that $25, thus giving me TWICE the enjoyment? And the person who
traded
in those games, he got credit so he got MORE GAMES, didn't he? All these
used games got to come from SOMEWHRE, which means SOMEONE DID buy
new games, and traded them in. So someone got a part of their $$$ back
to be
invested on something else, perhaps new games, perhaps used games,
perhaps
others. It's MORE $$$ in the industry!

You can't just hold up your side of the issue and proceed to eviscerate
the stance
without considering all the ancillary factors.
