Actually thats always been the whole battle. Copy protection isnt discussed
at corporate level as "pirate protection". Its called copy protection for a
reason. I keep seeing arguments about "you cant stop real pirates" or "it
only harms those who have legal copies" or "why dont they go after the
reasl pirate sites" which makes me want to yell DUH as if thats news to
anyone.

The industry is damaged much more by good intentioned people who feel they
arent really pirating software. They are just loaning a copy to a friend or
"I bought the game and should be able to play with who I want without
another CD" etc etc. So the most effective means available to the industry
is to bring to court any site that isnt clear about BEING a pirate site
(pirate sites that hide behind words like backups or abandoneware), and to
put in "copy protection" to keep people from easily making copies.
