C&C is great fun! Like others have said the install program is first class. I've been having a blast playing over the modem for 3 days now, and have played single player GDI up to level 5. Here are some things i'd like to mention that many have not. 1. A MAJOR improvement to this type of game in general is the way the interface works. It is Revolutionary, almost as good as the FOG OF WAR idea blizzard came up with. This interface lets you keep building units while your in your opponents face kicking butt way across the board from your base. By just moving your mouse a couple inches you can keep building units at home while you attack and give orders all over the board. Remember in Dune 2 and Warcraft 1 you had to go back to your base, click on that building, and choose what you wanted to build. This is a MAJOR improvement and makes game play MUCH easier. Having all the build icons always available is perfect! Good job Westwood. 2. Some of the units are fantastic. The Commando unit is my favorite. Those flame guys and tanks are great too. 3. I really don't like how you have to load each ORCA aircraft with missles individually. If you have a Helipad and buy a few extra ORCA's, one will land on the pad adn sit there. While the others just sit on the ground by the pad with no missles. You have to move one ORCA off and put the next one on the pad. THis can get very tedious in a real-time game. A squad of 3 or 4 ORCA's pack some serious punch. Especially good for taking out Harvestors and units in middle of board away from the SAM sites. But its just too time consuming to keep 'em loaded and flying. 4. Nukes (NOD only) are just too powerful. I thought my GDI spaced-based ion cannon was great, but then I got hit by a nuke and realized I only had a toy. My ion cannon can severly damage some building, but unless you have some units nearby to finish off the building it survives. The NUKE can take out buildings and do serious damage to surrounding buildings. Once he has the NUKEs he need only defend. 5. The Obelisk of light (NOD only) is a serious defense. My opponent had a choke point entering his town (many scenarios have chokepoints) and he put up 2, count them 2!, Obelisks. That coupled with SAM sites made it impossible to attack him or even drop some units by air. There range is so great that they take out many units before they can even fire. 6. When you play modem and add computer opponents, why don't they build a base?! 7. Graphics were dissapointing. I'd love to see these units in crisp clear SVGA. Guess we'll have to wait for C&C 2 Tiberiam Sun. My overall thoughts are that its a VERY fun game. Best real-time game out to date. But after seeing the FOG OF WAR i really hate my opponent getting to always see all my units in C&C. There is little element of surprise if he knows how to use his radar. Stealth tanks are great if you're playing the NOD side but die quickly. We've played several different modem scenarios and it seems that most of the tiberiam is away from your base, or in center of board. Tiberiam is very limited, personally i don't like this. It makes going after harvestors a good strategy. Especially since Harvesetors cost so much, and bring home so little and move so slow. A group of ORCA's or a gang of motorcycle rocket units can quickly get to them and have the firepower to kill them. Modem play is the way to play C&C. Ed
