Have specialized stacks for different jobs.  One for ghost
battle with lots of hydra, or other relatively high hit point
units but NO others.  Also a Throw away stack to keep going
around to get all that free money from mills etc. and to be
around to take over for a hero that has been cursed.  And
finally a fighter stack and a mage stack that are your
principal weapons.  Nurse these along, and be careful not to
fight ghosts, or elves early on.
