The European (incl UK) distribution of New World Computing's products is handled by Ubisoft of France. For anyone who considers buying NWC's fine products I'd like to issue a warning based on the recent releases of Might & Magic VI and the Heroes of M&M Compendium. While the (standard) US edition of MM6 has a nice cloth map, British customers are only deemed worthy of a cheap paper map. While the US edition of the HoMM Compendium has a redone manual covering all included games (HoMM 1, HoMM 2, Price of Loyalty add-on) and one reference card for each game, the German edition has the manual and reference card for HoMM2 only -- and a sheet saying that HoMM1 was really just a freebie and therefore no documentation was provided! Also consider that it takes Ubisoft at least a month to prepare the international releases after a game has been released in the USA, and that Ubisoft's German translation is a sad joke (what quality are the other translations?), and I'd recommend to anyone interested in NWC's fine products to either get a credit card and order them directly from the US (say http://www.cdmag.com or http://www.4cds.com) or else find a local dealer who does direct imports from the US (I can provide a German address if anyone's interested). European publishers are well aware of the fact that European customers are far less critical than American ones: they put up with any trash that is thrown at them and will rarely ever complain. The typical glowing Euro-mag "review" of alpha or beta software is testament to that. Only if we deny them our business they might eventually take note and improve their standards. Let's start with Ubisoft. -- Chris Nahr (chn...@emailNOSPAM.msn.com, remove NOSPAM to e-mail) MM6 Quick Reference at http://home.t-online.de/home/Christoph.Nahr
