And suddenly, on the floor...

I was working in a perfect shit hole in Canning Town last week,
demolishing a set of garages. This area is part of a regeneration
project which has been emptied of tenants and left to gangs of feral
youths who roam around looking for innocents to beat up.

For anyone from the uk who has been following the story in the papers
this week of the father who was shot 4 times by a revolting little
thug and died in front of his wife and son in a pool of blood, well,
it's just around the corner from there.

Anyway (there's a point to all this you'll be disappointed to know),
I'm clearing all the old car engines, burnt clothes and rat shit from
one of these garages when I see a cd case buried 'neath it all.
Reaching down and retrieving it reveals it to be a brand new, never
before opened copy of Hardwar. Well you could have buggered me with a
broom handle right there and then and I wouldn't even of noticed, so
stricken I was with awe at my good fortune.

Haven't played it yet.

That was mildly on topic wasn't it?

Incidentally, I've decided o both top and bottom post this so nobody
takes offence.

Br d: please come home ... all is forgiven.

No, wait -- I was thinking of someone else.

Anyway, yeah -- it's quite the reunion we seem to be having here. Still no
sign of Zan, though. In fact, he hasn't posted since May 23, 2006. Perhaps
not coincidentally, May 23 is observed as the "Day of Disunity" in
Discordianism (you can look it up).

Please don't say things like that. Where is the Bill or The Good Doctor, I
ask you? We can't have a reunion without a detractor or a sock-puppet now
can we?

Check the FAQ? I'm sure I read that somewhere. And what happened to all of
Lemmings lumpy beer?

Well, of course we need Bill. Sheesh. That goes without saying. Don't
know about the other feller, however.

Oh, Puh-leez. I am ever so glad those two don't spam the [airways] any more.
When it all started I used to think it kinda funny and interesting to read, but
it soon turned into an obsessive vendetta that was about as interesting as
watching a dead seal rot on the beach. The Bill spent years in my bozo bin.
Seems to have gotten out somehow since I saw a couple of posts by him recently.
Didn't look like he's gotten over it yet, though. Somebody send that man some
prozac, or a friendly hooker, I dunno which ;-)

Oooh this is weird! I even forgot how to follow up a post!
My version of Agent is older than christianity, whenever I click on
help I get a pithy Confucian tautology, still makes more sense than
the FAQ though.

Oh yes, my point. This place is not the same without Bill. If you had
Huffman killfiled through the entire history then I think you're in
the wrong room Pete.

Please take this criticism in the spirit of space-sim, you know how it
works.

And bp!!!! Come on man get back in! Fuck I've missed you!

And I *may* be able to entice Z n back here, can't promise anything,
he's a hugely rich and powerful mover of the immovable lately, and
he's still only 12 years old.

HI Bret, Alan, Lem, Shin, Stan. Honestly, It brings a tear to the eye.
Is Daniel still around?

Just reinstalled "Hardwar" on my system yesterday and the last official
version, 2.04, runs just fine. I suggest you visit this site, as it's sort
of the "one-stop" place for all things "Hardwar" these days:

http://zedo.hardwar.org.uk/

Zedo's site is a huge repository of info on HW (including all patches, both
official and the 6 or so betas which add all sorts of new features).

I've had HW on my system at various times since I bought it as an Interplay
bargain title back in 1998 and never cease to be amazed at the level of
enthusiasm this largely-overlooked game has managed to generate and sustain
over the years.

The game was DOA when it was published; it just didn't click. However, a
small group of....ahem....fanatics (including the developers, themselves)
became devoted followers of HW. Software Refinery put out patches for the
game for years after it flopped....when there was absolutely no economic
incentive to do so. Finally, SF went out of business, but former employees
and beta-testers continued to put out beta patches and the like (and I think
some of them are still doing so to this day....10 years after the game was
originally published in the UK).

The game is very complex and the game universe of "Misplaced Optimism" on
Titan......has a ton of "attitude" and is very rememiniscent of "Fallout."
The introductory FMV sets the tone very well.

Have fun playing it.

Hi Stan, thanks for the cheery words. You know all those other blokes from
the UK are such downers with no sense of humor then you come along and prove
how happy and upbeat a bloke can be.

P.S. I had to delete Lemming's post because it was such a negative post
unlike yours and to hide the fact that you top posted.

I had lots of fun with HW. Even played on one of the online servers
for a while and hosted one too. Rip the music and put it on an audio
CD. The music is one of the best parts of the game. I liked playing
Terminus to it as well.

Odd, on the full-retail version I own the game CD can be played in my
CD player. Music wasn't really to my taste so I turned it off.
