I just watched both the film and the series and thank god I watched
the series before the film. Anyone who went into the film "cold"
would've been instantly lost and bored. The film relied far too much
on the audience being fans and knowing the characters and the
backstory. The way the movie played out, kinda made a mockery of
Whedon's intro on the DVD, I think he filmed this for a ComicCon
screening, asking people to get everyone they knew, even non-fans,
into theatres to watch the film.

I was also pretty confused as to why the SHepard had left, until I got
ahold of the DarkHorse Serenity comic which fills in the blanks,
especially the fate of those blue gloved guys.

One other question, in the series pilot, the DOctor says that River
was smuggled form her "school" in that cryo container and he just
picked her up at some rendevous point, but in the film he is clearly
shown breaking her out and escaping with her fully conscious. Did I
miss something?
