Yes it is installed on most of my machines including my gaming rig
(upgraded from Win8.1 with settings retained).

No new issues so far but I've only tried a few games.

Heh!

Well if Russia would quit allowing these shady fucks like Putin to run
their country, you wouldn't have to be constantly looking over your
shoulder. ;)

What relation Russia has to bad design, bad quality of Indian software?
Even earlier Windows were a hackjob (no wonder considering absence of MS corporate
culture). Now it is just a trash.

I hope you will enjoy when some next _mandatory_ W10 update will turn your HDDs
to bricks, like it happened last winter.

Do I have an issue? I downloaded the iso for Win10 home 64bit to
install on my testbed. Burned iso, inserted, started: "please insert the
other disk labelled 64 bit and setup will restart automatically" it says
and shuts itself down.

Yay!

Well it was just a joke, but now that you bring it up I've seen just
as much bad Russian software as I have Indian. I'm not disagreeing
with you that coding quality outside of the USA leaves a little to be
desired if that was really what you're trying to say. Unfortunately
there is not an OS out there today where some or parts of the
operating system are not created off of American shores.

Nah, Windows 10 is actually the best one yet. And as someone that
uses OSX and Ubuntu frequently I can tell you it is by far superior to
those options.

I update all the systems in my home immediately (usually between 7-10)
at any given time and none of them have every been bricked in the last
20 years.

You do realize that the business model MS is changing to (where W10 is
the last version and it gets updated on an ongoing basis) is
essentially just the same as what Apple does with OSX right?

If you want to say that MS is not always the first in line when it
comes to certain innovations or trends, I would agree with you. They
sometimes borrow ideas from others but all technology companies do
that (and some great innovations have emerged from MS throughout
history).

I assumed he was interested in specific gaming issues, not
installation issues.

Yes I did have some issues with installing on my gaming system (but
that was a hardware specific issue that I believe had to do with the
USB hub in my GSync monitor, the exact cause remains unknown but its
resolved now).

Most of my other systems installed it without a hitch. Friends and
relatives reporting no problems and excellent first impressions of the
OS.

I mentioned friends and relatives because many of them represent
"mainstream" PC users -- not owners of high end gaming rigs with very
specialized hardware like SLI GPUS and such.

A convincing review I read said that where as Vista was a dramatic major
change from XP
W7, W8, & now W10 can be regarded like service pack updates to Vista.

Actually they are all just patches to XP.

Remember that XP was the shift that moved Windows off the DOS kernel
code onto the NT kernal code.

Are you saying that Windows 2000 was still DOS based? I ran W2000, it
was based on the NT kernel that was supposed to be for OS/2!

No, I probably should have qualified that a bit, but when I said moved
Windows onto the NT kernel I was regarding Windows and Windows NT as
two different product lines, as they existed back then (W2K was just
the next flavor of NT). Merging of consumer and business OSs into one
would be another way to say at it; perhaps the most accurate way to
phrase it.

How are you handling the "calling home to Microsoft" features? I
installed it on my laptop before my desktop and stupidly did the express
install rather than custom, so everything was turned on, syncing,
Cortana, etc., etc.,. Most of the stuff is turned off.

When I first attempted to install Win10 Pro, Windows informed me that it
couldn't tell if my laptop was ready for the install. So, I went to the
Toshiba forum and looked on the list of those models that were
compatible and mine wasn't on it. However, one of the moderators said
that doesn't mean it won't work with some tweaking. Other users were
successful, so I continued attempting to get it work and I did. I
removed just about everything from the laptop and the OS installed w/o a
problem. It runs flawlessly. As soon as I removed all my security
software, the thing started to install.

I have only had a chance to install Might & Magic X and KOA and they
both seem to work fine.

Obviously the graphics card drivers aren't fully mature yet, mostly
with regard to DirectX 12 (so mostly affect early testing) but to a
lesser extent also affecting other things, especially GPU intense
things like DX11 games.

MS forcing (graphics) driver updates via Windows update with very
limited or no options to defer them in case they're bad makes this
worse, there's already been several documented cases of this causing
boot loops on some machines.

But really, the only real casualty is that anything using SafeDisc or
some versions of SecuROM DRM's won't run due to security issues in the
way they're implemented.

I think it was the right call by MS but it definitely causes some
hurt, it would have been much worse if not for the push for less DRM
(lead by GOG, but Steam is also mostly a force for good here).

Upgraded my Core i7 a week or so ago and have had no issues. Have had
a ruthless Borderlands 2 addiction and Windows 10 ran that game
perfect. Have used Windows 10 with Dawn of War 2, Skyrim, Diablo 3,
and Satellite Reign. No issues with any of those games. In fact, I
actually believe the graphics in Borderlands 2 looked slightly better
under Windows 10. I'm a seriously old school gamer and graphics don't
mean a whole lot to me so they really have to stand out in order to
catch my attention. Everything seemed more crisp and vibrant.
Excellent frames and solid performance. Games ran fine under Windows
8.1 but they seem to have a little extra pop under Windows 10.

Be aware my stuff is all digital now eitherr through Steam or others
so that eliminates at least some of the DRM nonsense that tends to
crop up with a new OS.

For what it's worth I've upgraded all 3 of my machines to Windows 10.
One of them is an old Core 2 Duo with 2GB of ram I use for menial
tasks. A few months ago I put Windows 8.1 on it and it ran OK but was
kind of sticky here and there. I decided to upgrade that same machine
to Windows 10 and it runs silky smooth. It runs better than it did the
day I bought it although it came with Vista so that's not saying much.
The privacy issues are a serious concern but in terms of performance
I'm impressed with Windows 10.
