1) What would be your dream game(s)? 2) Which games have come closest to your definition? 3) If you don't have the time (or programming skill) to make it yourself, would you be willing/able to support it on Kickstarter or a similar crowdfunding site? Thank you for your answers, folks ^_^ Signed, Warewolf who has long since mastered the One Finger Death Punch. ~_^

A game that is not only fun in itself, but offers infinite replay value through tools that make it easy for the player community to mod it. What makes a game fun is of course a discussion in itself and perhaps more what you're looking for, but I see fun and infinite replay value via modifiability as two separate check boxes. A game can be intense fun for a while but a week later you're no longer interested, so to me it's not even approaching "dream game" status. A dream game would always need to be multiplayer for me. Programmed AI will never be able to match the tactical possibilities of playing against humans. >2) Which games have come closest to your definition? The approach to user-modification that Far Cry 2 took was a giant leap in the right direction. They literally made it so that people with very little technical skill could create their own competitive multiplayer maps. Not only that, they made it so that with even a little bit of effort, noobs could make maps that didn't suck and were actually worth playing. Skilled map makers could make absolute masterpieces that were beyond what the creators of the map making tools envisioned. IMO the success has not yet been duplicated. Far Cry 4 for example gives map making tools, but since none of the maps can be played competitively (co-op only) it doesn't do much toward satisfying the need for human rather than artificial intelligence and tactical possibilities I mentioned before. Doom 4 is supposed to have really easy to use modding tools built in, so there's hope there. We will have to wait and see. Back in the day some really good stuff came from the original Quake community. Actually some of the work in the multiplayer community that took place helped shape first person gaming as we know it. It was not a matter of built-in modding tools though, so one could argue that's out of scope of what I've been discussing. >3) If you don't have the time (or programming skill) to make it yourself, >would you be willing/able to support it on Kickstarter or a similar >crowdfunding site? To date, no. I want to spend my bucks on a finished product rather than a prayer.

Get rid of the crafting crap though, and make something like thrown together instances of what I have the understanding that's in Wow. As well as ability to play even high level content solo if I want. There's room for more than one game though, I think having only one is really boring. Fallout 2 - completely different than that, My favorite single player game, along with MoM, Star Control, Wing Commander III, and plenty of games I only played for a couple weeks, all very different. > 2) Which games have come closest to your definition? You make it, I'll buy it. I'm not buying into any game before it's made, I've seen too much crap that's no good after tons of hype, lots of companies have tried to make ripoffs of MoM, but they all suck horribly in comparison. I'd buy into buying up and restarting the servers for CoV that's about it. - Justisaur

1) What would be your dream game(s)?
A Singleplayer SciFi FPS/RPG, with a strong central story arc &
mythology, and multiple approaches to solve problems, melee+ranged combat,
with good movement options
2) Which games have come closest to your definition?
Thief 1, DeusEx3, FO3, SystemShock1, Stalker
3) If you don't have the time (or programming skill) to make it yourself,
would you be willing/able to support it on Kickstarter or a similar
crowdfunding site?
I've funded several titles, but a AAA fps is usually too big for
kickstarter
