Dear Gamers,
May 19th was a crucial date for all of us here at CD PROJEKT RED -- we
released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, our open world role-playing game
that we had been hard at work on for over 3 years. Since day one, you
have given us tons of positive feedback and support -- the sheer
volume of emails weve gotten since launch simply congratulating us
for our efforts is both epic and heartwarming, and I wish every
developer comes to have such a fantastic community. In terms of media
reception, were really humbled by the scores the game has received
all around the world. With an average of 90+ on every platform, Wild
Hunt is our dream coming true.
Id also like to take this opportunity to thank the four million
gamers worldwide who bought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the first two
weeks from launch. Four million RPG fans spending their hard-earned
money on our game is a sign that we did something right, and you can
be sure that well harness all that positive energy and make the
upcoming expansions worthy of the grand adventure that youre telling
us Wild Hunt already is! Until then, keep on enjoying Wild Hunt, do
not forget to grab your weekly set of free DLCs, and stay tuned for
constant updates and enhancement to the game we are continuously
working on.
Dandelion once said to Geralt that the world is changing, the sun is
setting, and vodkas running out -- go, play, and have fun!
All the best,
Marcin Iwinski
Co-founder, CD PROJEKT RED

hmmm..... completely DRM-free too, at least if purchased from GOG...at
exactly the same price as all the other download sources. Just before
the game was released, GOG stated thet there were 1.5 million
pre-orders.

Seems as if there are far more honest PC-game purchasers than are
usually credited by our resident Steam-DRM fanatic.

The sales numbers certainly seems to justify CD-Projekt's/GOG's faith
in the honesty of their customer base. How refreshing !

Also, how nice to see a sincere thank-you note directly from a
developer to their fans.

Now if we can only get them to spend as much time fixing the bugs and
making it look something like the game they promised at E3 as they
have writing self-congratulatory attaboys-to-me notes.

Joyfully, Steam enacted it's refund policy just in time for me to
shitcan this game and send it back to the oven to bake a while and
pick it up on a ten dollar special later.

I used to be a fan of the Witcher series. I hope I can say that again
one day.

It seems as if they have been working very hard on that.

Must have been a very rapid <2-hour assessment of the game....

Just like I am doing currently with Far Cry 4 and Dying Light.
Threshold might be a little higher.... say $15-$20 max.

Really?? I never thought that Single Player RPGs were ever exactly
your "cup of tea".... Multiplay shooters seem to be your forte....

I hope so too...

I purchased the game from Amazon and it uses a GOG
installer. Seems however you buy the game it's going through
GOG. They even have a new client that allows for achievements
and such. A few free DLCs can also be had through GOG.

I have to agree with this one, GOG and their DRM free
model is what has me buying more games than I have since the
90s. Very good to see that the paranoid game developers are
wrong. My theory is that even some of the people who pirate the
games actually buy them too. Of course there are those pirates
who will never buy the game no matter what so they aren't really
costing the game developers money. The claimed losses due to
piracy are very exaggerated IMO. This just goes to show if you
put out a quality game, people will buy it.

I and 4 mio other happy customers beg to differ.

Yes. It didn't take long to assess the yesteryear visuals, the screwy
controls, the inability to bind movement keys (which I know they later
fixed), the fact the game disabled the volume control on my keyboard,
and to realize they duped the public by showing one game at E3 and
releasing another.

I know you're probably not interested, but avoiding release-time
purchase of the two above completely excluded you from any reasonable
enjoyment of the multiplayer games (which in the case of FC4 was very
much worth playing).

That is always the dilemma if you're a multiplayer player -- you can't
wait for a sale price, because if you do then you've missed the first
few months of online play. In time, most games that aren't designed
around SP campaign first but include a MP element end up losing their
audience to the point where you can't even find a game, or if you do
it's with a handful of people who also picked up the game on sale (who
are also not MP players thus don't know how to get the most out of
it).

As I said, I'm sure you're not losing sleep over the loss of
multiplayer, but I wanted to point it out because so many gamers don't
realize what they are missing (a dilemma they've created for
themselves by their own habits).

>
>Really?? I never thought that Single Player RPGs were ever exactly
>your "cup of tea".... Multiplay shooters seem to be your forte....

I think folks here think of me as a multiplayer-shooter guy only
because I'm one of the only one here that plays those types of games.
I'm into games that involve tactics, and the purest form of that is to
play tactical first person shooters against other humans. That's not
the extent of my gaming history though. Most folks would be surprised
to learn how many hours I've spent on games like Age of Empires, Red
Alert 1&2, Command and Conquer, Warcraft (the original RTS not the
MMO).

I've written about being a fan of Witcher1 and 2 many times here
before. In fact I defended Witcher 2 as a good game when folks in
this NG were bashing it.

I wouldn't say that single player RPGs are necessarily my favorite
genre, but I play many of them and convey positive impressions of them
here when they're good.

I've completed main quest lines in Skyrim, Fallout:NV, and a number of
others over the years, I just find that too many of them become a
grind and do not hold my interest. Go here, get this, run there and
give it to so and so. There's nothing about being an errand boy with
armor and sword that is interesting or appealing to me.

I did recently finish the nutso-long main campaign of GTA V, taking a
multi-week break from the multiplayer features of the game just so I
could finally get it done. And some of the missions were a lot of
fun, but that's certainly not an rpg, just an example of a recent SP
title. Besides, the line has gotten blurred between action games and
rpgs of late. Action games consist of rpg-like elements and vice
versa.

And there are about ten times that number playing Call of Duty on any
given day across the world.

Are you sure you want to imply that the population size of fanboys is
really meaningful?

exact opposite. He'll be stalking you, tyring to find out where you

This dude is probably the biggest weirdo on Usenet game groups right
