Age of Empires 1, Outlaws, Starcraft; b. Soulbringer, Max Payne 1, 2? Group a. was broken since 13.6 betas Group b. - since 13.8 (but do not work with 13.4 too) (My cloudless days with hd5770 over. After forced upgrade to 7790 I lost quite a few hairs |-/ ) -- Andrew Rybenkov

I do not have any of those games - not installed now anyway.
I have installed 13-9 & in the few days since all seems fine.
Just installed it straight over the previous driver.
I'm surprised you have as many problems,
perhaps there is something other than Graphic Drivers at fault ?
Run Windows Test DXdiag ?
Look through all your Catalyst Control Panel settings ?
Completely uninstall the Driver & Control Panel & then reinstall ?

You can check Steam's forums for Max Payne 1, 2 - it is not only me. For a while I stick to 13.5 beta 2 as less problematic out of all drivers that can run 7790. -- Andrew Rybenkov

ATi is notorious for breaking support for older games as they tweak their drivers to be acceptable for newer ones. Since AMD didn't fire off the driver team when they acquired ATi, this didn't change, nor did all the other bad driver issues Ati has had since cards had less than 1 meg of ram. Which is why I still refer to them as ATi - AMD can actually write drivers and do shit, ATi never could. The saddest thing about the acquisition is AMD using that catalyst installer abomination to install their motherboard drivers. Used to be you'd just install the driver, now you have to install catalyst, (then reboot?) then catalyst HAS to update itself to the latest version and reboot, and then finally you can install the drivers. The absolute opposite of progress. Xocyll

Andrew ;) ...I've read your Forum posts.
Its the use of PAE - Physical Address Extension.
Its just is not going to work in the way you want to.
At least completely disable it & see if the problems go.
Time to get a 64 Bit version of Windows ;)
