Hi Brian, I don't want to start any arguments about whether the music in Ultima 7 or in Ultima 8 was better, although I personally prefer the music in Ultima 7. The difference is that Ultima 7's pieces are more memorable and melodic, and very much more in the foreground than the Ultima 8 pieces, which are basically dynamic, but more in the background type of music, which chords, accompaniments etc, but no real, good, memorable tune or melody. I mean, someone can play an Ultima 7 piece and I will immediately recognize it as the music from Ultima 7, but I can't really do the same for Ultima 8. So what I hope to see in Ultima 9 is a good mix of those 2 types of music. A good background type music for combat, wandering, etc, and good melodic tunes for some some places or events, e.g. Rule Brittania in Brittania, Stones, the U7 Love Theme, Emps, "Dead body" theme, the Kilrathi March (as I call it) next to the Kilrathi ship :) etc... oh yeah, I specially like the Wisp's Call, and the wistful piece played in the music hall in Britannia. And ever since Stones first came out, no Ultima is complete without that piece! Bring back Stones!! And oh yeah, make sure that there is some REAL support for the GUS sound card! 4-8 channels of digital sound, rite? The GUS can do it with hardly any drain on the CPU. And please! Take pity on me, a 386-33 owner... U7P2's speed is very tolerable, hopefully, you can come up with something which gives a speed like that. I think that everything else I wish for has probably been said. As for combat, I prefer real time but can pause_to_change_commands type like Darklands. Others: - Give different characters different colours for what they say, or their "barks" as you call them, so that we can see who is saying what in the middle of close combat. I always wonder who's the person saying "ouch" during the melees... - Rotable views... like Simcity 2000. I hate being unable to see behind the walls. Of course an onscreen compass is also a must... - No more of those kind of crap with Frigidazzi! Nastasshia was nice though, should have been someone/something you should have followed up with. - More to come :) -- Best Regards, Internet linuxpub!adv3!gt...@csah.com Gerald/Gerry Tan(gent) FidoNet 6:600/408.6 DataNETLink 12:200/17.2
