🚀 go-pugleaf

I recently started playing Bards Tale and have some questions.  I
realize that this is an old game but any help would be greatly 
appreciated.  If you thinks its funny that I'm playing such an old
game, you will really laugh when I tell you that my system is a 286.

Anyhow, here are my questions:

1. How do I get my characters to gain a level?  I have earned the
   necessary experience points but cannot find the proper location to
   gain the levels.  I have searched the city and spoken with the 
   bartenders but no luck.

2. Why do I lose all my gold when I save my party at the Inn?

As stated previously, any help will be greatly appreciated.
