Nobody is "chief" of this (or almost any other) newsgroup. News is as near to anarchy as anything you will ever find. This is generally a good thing - but anarchy only works well if all involved parties behave responsibly. That is no longer the case for UseNet news. The spam is overwhelming. Look at the newsgroup list for this article. I am reading this from comp.sys.intel which used to be for technical information. Now it, like most other technical groups, is flooded with hard drive ads, memory ads, MS-Windows v.s. Mac wars, rants against Bill Gates (he doesn't own Intel - yet), and all kinds of other rubbish. The combined effect of the vastly diminished quality of news content combined with the childish attitude of so many posters is that a lot of the best, technically informed people are tuning out. Perhaps someday soon the only people still reading news will be the ranters and spammers. So... KEEP THE DAMNED ADS OUT OF ALL INAPPROPRIATE NEWSGROUPS!
