Of course the people who aren't >using it are "badmouthing" it; they aren't using it are because they >don't like what it offers. Then they are talking straight out of their asses. They are making decisions based on what hype-driven journalists have said, without realizing that a journalists primary goal these days is to create controversy and draw traffic to their click bait. > Most of the people who /are/ using it are >doing so because they actively made a choice to upgrade because they >presumably like what they saw. Or they are just smart enough to realize that Win7 or whatever they'd prefer to stick with is not going to be supported forever, and they realize that it's better to upgrade while it's free than to procrastinate, sit on their asses and hope Win10 goes away somehow. >But even that isn't true, because there >are a number of people who have made the upgrade who find the OS >unsatisfactory and are vocal about it as well. And they certainly have a right to their opinion, but they fall outside of the category of people described at the top of this post, so that's a different story. >The number of people >"forced" onto Windows 10 (because that is what came with their new >computer) is vanishingly small at this point. >I've been running Win10 Preview on a VM and on an older laptop since >February and I have no intention of upgrading my primary machine to >the new version (and the laptop is now back to Win7). Between the loss >of control over my PC, the advertising, the spyware, the awful >interface and the uncertain future of Windows becoming "software as a >service" I've no intention of switching anytime soon. The "spyware" is a myth. As far as advertising, MS is trying a business model that folks seem to respond positively to when Google is offering it. If that's what customers seem to want, then why not make it an option? >The lure of Dx12 just isn't enough to tempt me. It doesn't matter. Unless you want to be forever shackled to playing DX11 games, which will taper off in probably less than a year, and be forever forbidden from playing new games, then I'd say you're kind of screwed if your long-term plan is to avoid DX12. >In fact, Microsoft's >antics with their OS might be enough to give up on the Windows upgrade >path entirely. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I'm sure you'll find good company among the other folks that have been waiting 25 years or so for Linux or Mac to become a valid gaming platform. I know I for one would like to see MS do as much as they can to filter whiners away from the platform. I'd love to see all the sniveling complainers rounded up, thrown on an island with Linux to fend with. >I'll just stick with Win7 until its no longer viable >and then find a new alternative (be it desktop Linux, SteamOS, >Android, MacOSX or whatever). Good luck with that. I'm going to hold you to this promise :)
