SSD Endurance Experiment:

http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/15/03/12/184222/endurance-experiment-kills-six-ssds-over-18-months-24-petabytes

No noticeable slowdown, first to die lasted through 700 TB of writes.

You don't even need a particularly large one to take advantage of ISR. You do need to make sure your MB, CPU & SSD (Intel only I think) are all compatible with ISR to use it. There's some other alternatives similar to ISR, but I'm not as familiar with them. Or you can buy a hybrid drive, which should be similar in performance, but I haven't verified that with research.

On the HD front I'd agree to avoid Seagate. I prefer WD, but didn't see any particular issues with Hitachi when we were using them at work. WD has had a couple major blunders over the years with certain drives, but in general has been more reliable.
