Glad to hear it and I apologize for doubting you. Also, welcome (or
perhaps welcome back) to comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg. New posters are
always welcome

I hope - Steam aside - you enjoy Skyrim. It's one of my favorite games
and probably one into which I have put the most hours. While its
storyline and characters are not particularly compelling, the breadth
and detail of its world are extravagant and breathtaking. Even after
600 hours of playing the game, I /still/ stumble across new things all
the time. This is a game about exploration and experimentation far
more than it is about the heroic quest.

A good deal of the game's longevity is due to its extensive modding
community. These talented players have produced add-ons that rival -
and often exceed - anything the developer has released as DLC, and
they give it away for free. From graphical add-ons that significantly
improve its already-impressive graphics, to new features (things like
backpacks and carryable lanterns are just the tip of the iceberg) to
whole new lands and quests, the mods will keep you busy long after you
finish the main quest.

The Steam client has its own workshop where you can download some of
these mods but for a greater variety I recommend visiting the Skyrim
Nexus http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/index.php/

Come back and post your experiences and opinion of the game after
you've played it for a while.
