If your video card actually overheats, that is it excedes its maximum operating temperature, then there's something wrong with your system, not the game. >I noticed that this is the new trend in gaming and am wondering if >Bethesda is going to follow suit. In general, games have always tried to exploit available CPU and GPU resources to the maximum extent possible. What's new is that modern video cards, and to a lesser extent CPUs, can use much more power and generate much more heat than they used to. They're also much better at not using as much power when it isn't necessary, so when they're not being exploited to their full potential they generate less heat. Or to put it another way, what's changed is that it used to be that video cards and CPUs had fans that always ran at 100% speed, but because they were small never generated that much noise. Now CPUs and video cards come with much bigger and noisier fans, but don't since they don't run at 100% unless necessary they're much quieter when idle. In most cases, having your fans running at 100% when playing game isn't a bad thing. If your fans never run at 100% then you're likely never fully exploiting your system, and you've wasted your money buying a more powerful computer than you actually need. That said, the Elder Scrolls Online, like most MMORPGs will likely be targeted at a wide range of PCs. You should be able to turn down the graphics to the minimum, enable vsync or a frame limiter and keep it from using more than fraction on your computer's capabilities.
