The Codex of Ultimate Wisdom caught John Sabean writing:

: >1. will it affect statistical analyses using programs like SPSS?
: >2. I've heard that it affects popular spreadsheets like 123 and Excel,
: >is this true?
: From what I have read, the bug effectively does the following.
: Given the calculation: A - (A/B)*B
: The result given is 256 for a very specific range of numbers for A and B.
: The error, of course, comes when you divide A by B. Which means, if your
: numbers are in the proper range, then yes it will affect 1 and it
: will affect 2. Go to the intel newsgroup. Surpisingly enough this is
: a very popular topic over there.... :) I don't know what range of
: A and B are affected, but you could get some numbers and find out for
: yourself.

now this is very interesting... *why* only a specific range of numbers
and not all numbers???

: If you have the bug and call intel, depending on what you use your
: computer for, you may be able to get a replacement.

well, I haven't got a Pentium *yet* :) We were planning to get a P90
next week... but I've now heard that the P100 is not affected by this..
is this true?
