There are a number of ways to do it.  I really didn't have any problem
when I used the Blackrock Sword (you must of course have FoV add-on) but
I've heard that some people used glass swords, I can't remember if the
firedoom staff is fast enough, but it is quite possible that that's 
what I used too.  The key here is a good strong weapon (all the hit
points you have after completing FoV don't hurt at all either... :) )

Now, when you kill him, don't leave the small tetrahedron behind like I
did and have to go back and get it at the end of the game...
