Half Life - The Beast from the Blast Pit > > As Barney warned me, "Shhhh...it can hear you". Surely he couldn't > have been right...this is a game, how can it 'hear' me? Ah yes, that's a classic bit. I remember playing it through the second time and putting a satchel charge up there (I think I was using weapons cheats) on the boxes of high explosives, then climbing back down and detonating them... Of course the Barney died instantly, and his bloody skull came skittering past my feet. But the truly funny part was that concurrent with the explosion and his death, the sound effect for him saying "Hey! Be careful with that!" was triggered - and was still playing as his skull slid by! -- http://www.delversdungeon.dragonsfoot.org Remove the X's in my email address to respond. I was playing the first mission in Thief, and entered a brightly lit room - an art gallery it looked like. Suddenly I heard the door open behind me. There was a small cubby-hole in the corner, I quickly dodged into it, and crouched in the corner, motionless, quite worried the guard would find me. 'I know you're in there' he said. His footsteps approached, getting louder as he got closer and closer to my hiding place. The tip of his sword poked around the corner... "Ah it's nothing, must have been rats' he sighed, and walked away. A great moment! -- Steve

A long time ago someone lent me WWF Wrestling for the Atari ST. That game was impossible to complete over a certain level. Except for the fact that the joystick and mouse fit in the same port, and that the mouse signal for "Moved a fraction of a millimetre" corresponds to a single joystick movement in that direction. This meant that when the supreme wrestlers got a hold on you and you had to do the Joystick-waggle-to-win-the-grapple-and-do-your-special-move action (I'm sure they gave it a more concise name), you could pause the game, disconnect the joystick, connect the mouse, unpause the game and run the mouse in circles to do the equivalent of hundreds of joystick waggles per second. This would enable you to win half of the matches towards the end of the game. What is the globally accepted S.I. Unit of joystick waggles per second? :-)
