Hi, I'm unable to get Republic: The Revolution to run on my setup. When I start the game, the mouse cursor changes to show a cd, then the screen goes black, and seconds later I get a blue-screen. Here's the content of the error screen (translated, since my Windows version isn't in English): There's a problem 0E with 0028:ED19D2AE in VXD ZZZZZZZZ(01) + 0000268E . (then the usual stuff about shutting down the program, alt+ctrl+delete and so on). If I just press any key, I get another blue-screen, stating that there's a problem (0D, this time) with 0377:0000372F. This time, the computer get totally stuck, and I have to use alt+ctrl+delete to restart it. My system: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 512 MB RAM GeForce 4 Ti4400 (128 MB RAM) Windows 98 SE (recently re-installed, with very few other games or utils installed) I have two cd drives (one cd/dvd and one cd/rw), and the same thing happens no matter what drive I have the cd in. I'm using an original copy of the game, and the DirectX version from Republic cd 1 (v. 8.1). I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what I should try now. Joachim

Take Republic back to the shop. Tell them you can't get the game to work with your CD-ROM drive because of the copy protection (this is true - no need to be embarrased!), and ask for an exchange for Age Of Wonders: Shadow Magic, which will be enjoyed by you. Job and done. Questions? -- The instructions SPECIFICALLY SAID......."DO NOT TAUNT HAPPY FUN BALL!!!!!"

Job and done. Questions? Nope. Thanks for your help - since the game failed to work on both my drives, I did not think the copy protection was the problem. It turned out to be as you had said, though, and the game is now working thanks to the no-cd crack by Deviance. Joachim

I know they honestly believe that copy protection reduces piracy. If you are such a person, read that again. dfs

Of course it does. Or did you mean to say "stops piracy" instead of reduces it. Of course it doesnt stop anyone who can read this group but that doesnt matter. As long as the next CP tweak keeps the legally purchased CD copying software from easily making copies at the touch of a button then its doing its job. Gandalf Parker
