Okay, here's the problem: I just got the game Ultima 7, in 3.5 form. I have a 5.25 disk drive, and that's it. I don't have a disk exchange card in the box, but I do have the reg card, so all's well there. However, I don't really want to mail in an exchange request if I can simply copy the disks via a campus computer onto 5.25 format. One major problem is that there's one file (I've already tried installing it to a campus PC to see if that would help--it doesn't--I did erased it at that point from the HD) that's 6 Megs in uncompressed form. I seem to recall one way to format 5.25 disks to 1.44 format w/o bad sectors, but I'm not sure how to do that. (I have DOS 5.0) If that's all it takes, just let me know. I would think that would work. Also, would PKZip compress a 6 meg file down under 1.2? (and how does one maximally compress a file to do this?) However, if there's any other ideas, please help. I assume Origin would convert the disks if I have the reg card, but I can't be certain... Mark Hachman

Get the ARJ compressor since it has much better multi-volume support. Install the game from the 3.5 onto the PC. Type arj a -r -v1200 a:\u7.arj and insert extra disks when asked. Take these 5.25's over to your pc and do: arj x -v a:\u7.arj and the 6 meg or so will be decompressed to your hard drive. Have fun. (Change the a: to whatever drive happens to be around. :-) -- +-------------------------------------+---------------------------+ | Mike Marcelais (Perm Address) | mrma...@eos.ncsu.edu | | 4109 Livingstone Place | Fourth Bryan Productions | | Durham, NC 27707 | #include <disclaim.h> | +-------------------------------------+---------------------------+ | if the above address bounces, then try the address below: | | mrmarcel%e...@ncsuvx.ncsu.edu | +-----------------------------Signature-Virus-Shield-v1.0-enabled-+

There exists a utility called VGA-Copy. It is able to copy disks of different
format, even format disk to unusual formats ( for example 3.5" disks up to
1.7 MB).
I don't know what ftp-site its on, but if you don't find it, mail me and i will
send you a uuencoded version via e-mail.
