To all, I recently found a game called OMEGA, by ORIGIN. It is a tank battle game where you have to write code to program the tanks actions. Much like crobots, probots, and xtank (i think). Well my probelm is that it came with no example source, etc. Is the game still i n publication? I have been looking for it in Australia, but I haven't been able to fiund anythi ng. Does any1 have and docs for it, even 1 example tank would be great for starters. Umm, if any1 wants to sell it, please reply also. Well Anuff for now Ciao Thomas R Schar t0s...@teaching.cs.adelaide.edu.au

Thomas, Hi from a long ways away! I recently bought Omega at a closeout table for $10 and it is the best $10 I have ever spent on a computer game! The game comes with a large programming manual which is makes any form of copy protection really unnecessary, since you'll never figure the game out with out it. The game does come with a few tanks that are not compiled and you should be able to look at there source code in the editor. I trust you have the PC version since I found your message in the ibm.games area... It is a great game, I made Omega Clearance in about 6 hours. I have built many tanks and if you'd like to exchange some (compiled form only) let me know! I also have some I downloaded from GEnie which can consistently beat my best! Jim Veneskey

I picked up Omega when it was in the 4-pack of other nearly-defunct Origin games at Egghead. It's a GREAT game, but I haven't had as much time to spend building tanks as I would wish. What I would like to see is a re-coded Omega that a) has better grapics, and b) gives you the option of a "pilot's eye" view of the action. I'd be interested in any tanks anyone has designed, but I don't really have any to offer in exchange right now.... I haven't even spent enough time in it seriously desiging things to make Omega clearance yet.... -Richard Hartman har...@ulogic.COM -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "If we shadows have offended, Think but this and all is mended: That you have but slumbered here, While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, no more yielding but a dream."

I agree. I had the program several years ago for my Atari ST. Since then, I got a PC and wanted more. I wrote some really good tanks, but it was sometimes hard to overcome the one little weakness in each tank. > What I would like to see is a re-coded Omega that a) has better > grapics, and b) gives you the option of a "pilot's eye" view of > the action. I was mainly disappointed that the battlefield was divided into a grid. Many games are going away from that concept nowadays. I would like to see a smoother simulation and improved graphics. I don't care that much about top view, though. Just my $.03 (inflation) =) Ken Geis (bog...@ucsee.berkeley.edu)
