I've recently sent off emails to just about every game developer which i normally purchase games from regarding there stance on 3D cards/chipsets, 3D technology as a whole, and how they were going to support it ..among them was ea,sierra, activision, westwood, legend, virgin, origin, microprose, accolade, spect rum holobyte,ssi,midscape,blizzard,idsoft,bethesda,sir-tech and on and on.... the feedback i've received has been varied at best from extemely descriptive and helpful (legend entertainment) to utterly useless and incredibly anal responses (ea - support#6 jeff i think his name was), anyway the common stance I'm getting is that no one has chosen a platform they intend to support..hell activision said that they are trying to get away from cutting special versions for every 3D chipset that approaches them, which to me means that I cannot rely that "that" card will have the support of my favorite gaming company. The reason i did this is because I wanted to add a 3D board (I was thinking orchid righteous for those who are curious) to my existing mystique card, who is the best to date at 2D, but shovels manure on 3D. After all the responses i've received I strongly recommend waiting until some sort of standard comes into play because as of the today all but one of the companies i mentioned earlier have not committed to a 3D solution or solutions...they aren't even sure which chipset they will be writing to let alone a specific card..(except sierra they are coming out with their own 3D card which I believe is either a et6000 or S3D based on some specs they gave me,and will of course be writing games for these cards..per sierra). I would love to hear from anyone whom has inquired on a similiar note with the gaming companies, really curious about any findings which hopefully proves my my take on how the industry is handling 3D technologies. my take being that 3D is just to unstable right now and cannot be trusted to have the full support that it deserves, in other words DO NOT BUY A 3D CARD YET UNTIL IT HAS ESTABLISHED A SUPPORT BASE!!!!. **************************************************************************** ********************** disclaimer: 1.this is my opinion (take it or leave it) 2.it doesn't reflect other aspects of graphical enhancements DirectX, D3D, openGL (glide), etc.. many of the cards out there do enhance and support the above tools but I'm looking and thinking of direct implementation of 3D expression when making my statement. okay wasted enought time back to work....
