In article <MPLANET.31e562...@daily-planet.execpc.com>, Frank Eva <ire...@execpc.com> wrote: >Digital Gamescape has just posted an editorial entitled "Quake Developer >Sells Out to Chip Maker". It provides some intriguing speculation about >the recent agreement between id Software and Rendition. Stop by the web >site and check it out! (URL below) >http://www.execpc.com/~ireplay/ Having read it, and its theory that Rendition paid off id to release the Rendition version first, here's my comment: I have a much simpler reason: the Rendition port of Quake is DONE ALREADY. Rendition showed it in its booth at both the Computer Game Developers' Conference, and at E3. Why would id not release an already- done port first? The DirectX port will be a lot of work, so it's a cheap publicity splash for both id and Rendition, with no extra work for either, to release the Rendition version first. Of course, conspiracy theories garner more hits, even if they're completely bogus.... (Also, this thread was originally horribly overcrossposted. Oh well, anything to get your URL out there, huh Frank?) -- Rob Jellinghaus ro...@unreal.com http://www.best.com/~robj
