The map was made up of dots - star systems - connected to each other by lines (representing wormholes). The rotation helped you see the connections. I think posession of systems allowed you to build ships. You moved your fleet between systems. When it encountered the enemy fleet, it switched to melee to resolve the battle. -- Lucian
