Actually you can.  If you use f1ed (the PD F1GP editor, that allows you to
change the car colours & characteristics), one of the built-in side effects of
using the program is to make all the helps available on all levels.
This allows you to play in ace mode using auto-shift (like I do), and also (if
you feel like it) turn on indestructable just before a shunt.  
Of course, the temptation is to run with too many helps on, but I generally
only use the white-line and autoshift (unless I'm feeling destructive & decide
to wreck the entire field - ha ha :)
