The one from the same company (Frogware) called 'The Awakened' is good 
too and is based on an HP Lovecraft horror story. But Jack the Ripper is 
based on the real historical facts known about JtR so I prefer that one.

I just checked and www.justadventure.com is still there.  They have a lot of 
adventure game reviews and maybe some action games. They seem to have made a 
few changes on their site, but its still there. I have a few favourite 
Sherlock Holmes games, some being quite old. My favourite is probably SH and 
The Rose Tattoo and Serrated Scalpel made in mid 1990's. They would be hard 
to find now. In the newer SH games I like SH Nemesis best. Silver Earring 
wasn't bad. The Awakened was OK. Haven't played SH vs Jack the Ripper. Check 
justadventure above for reviews of some SH games. Also, check 
http://www.adventuregamers.com/ for adventure game reviews.

try to find SH & the Rose Tattoo.  I just tried JA again and I still can't 
access the site in firefox or explorer.  I miss that site...  Maybe you are 
accessing a cached version or perhaps it can only be accessed in the U.S.?

I'm in Canada same as Cronos, and I just tried JA and no problem getting it. 
I'm not sure why you are having a problem connecting to it. Do you run a 
pop-up blocker that could be preventing you from accessing JA? or could you 
by mistake have blocked JA in your blocked list?  What country are you in? 
If you try to get Rose Tattoo and Serrated scalpel, you would probably have 
to try Ebay. I don't know how much they would be.  They are both on CD 
though started out on floppies, but Serrated Scalpel is older than Rose 
Tattoo, and SS was mainly text and not speech. Rose Tattoo was all speech on 
the CD.

used a proxy server and it loads just fine!  I just hope this doesn't have 
anything to do with the web filter our government has placed on our entire 
country without our permission...

I'm in NZ and it loads just fine. So, if I were Sherlock Holmes,
I'd have to say it is either something specific to your computer,
or your country. Or rather, I might say "when you have excluded

JA has had problems with being hacked and having malware installed on
their website. As far as I know, the problem has been cleaned up, but
Some people have noticed it is still occasionally being flagged as an 
attack website. It's possible your ISP is blocking sites that are
suspected of installing malware.

Maybe that is the problem...  Well I'm glad that I can view JA via proxy 
now.  I find their reviews to be invaluable when selecting a new adventure 
game to play.  Thanks for everyone's help (and witty remarks).

btw it was the new Sherlock Holmes movie that motivated me to play a S.H. 
adv game.  Has anyone seen it?  I thought it was very good, although a 
higher plot : action ratio would have been nice!
