HEXEN: Beyond HERETIC is slated for October 30th release (DEVIL's NIGHT).
There is no DOOM 3....what computer store was this that told you this load
of crap?
Strife is coming out this fall as well.....Strife is an
RPG/action game using the doom engine (by Rogue Entertainment) and will be
out around the same time as HEXEN.
QUAKE on the other hand will be out closer to Christmas....IT WILL
REVOLUTIONIZE the gaming industry!!! Preparte to spooge!!
The closest you will get to DOOM 3 is the NU64 version being done by
Williams' software. It will have true 3d models in it...It has been
called the ULTIMATE version of Doom by the boyz at Id software!! They have
said that do DO NOT intend to do another Doom game...they may allow other
companies to do so but they plan to break new ground (ie: QUAKE) with
other fresh ideas!

Doom 3 is probably "Strife" -- another cool game using the Doom engine (which is supposedly a meld of medieval and high-tech motifs). Later, J.

I would love to see a DOOM 3 based on the Quake engine :) I hope iD doesn't pass up an opportunity to do this or have someone else do this someday - DOOM is a gaming household word now :) NCP -- npi...@cldc.howard.edu -- Computer Learning & Designs Center Operator nite...@wam.umd.edu -- U. of Maryland @ College Park student account nite...@glue.umd.edu -- U. of Maryland engineering student account

Device for digital/analog conversion of sound is called Sound Blaster, video - Video Blaster, guess what Smell Blaster is supposed to mean? And guess what smell would any Doom level have. Yes, I think Doom stinks. But I don't want to convince anyone that I'm right. Alex.

Perhaps it is because one can relate to the weapons more. We gave Heretic a try for multi-player games... it was fun for a while, but there was just no comparison to running around with a shotgun or rocket launcher :) I would be satisfied right now with a version of Doom that was upgraded to the Heretic (or Hexen) engine. With all the environmental sounds (splashing water etc), and perhaps a fuel-powered jetpack... it would be fantastic. It would also be nice if your characters could reflect what weapon they were currently carrying. I read in some computer gaming magazine that ID has no plans, and in fact didn't want to create a Doom III. The article was regarding Quake, after a visit by the author to ID Software. I'm really looking forward to Quake, but I'm still not too keen on the fantasy setting (I love fantasy games, just not when it comes to first-person action games). -- Emilio Galasso University of Toronto: Computer Science eg...@msi.net bo...@torfree.net

Over in the rec.games.computer.doom hierarchy, various sources (including id, I think) have said "Doom III" was a poorly chosen in-house reference to Doom for the NU64 console. The final version of Doom for the PC/MSDOS is Doom v 1.9u (Ultimate Doom). The final version of Doom II is 1.9. Ports to OS/2 and Win95 are supossedly forthcoming. Kyle

I like DF much better than DOOM because of: 1) Better look 2) Perfect storyline 3) Combat/mission style versus blood gore and simple shoot'em up 4) INF language 5) Better weapons/enemies 6) Better 3D engine capabilities You see - 3D engine is last in my list. So had Dark Forces inferior 3D engine I'd prefer it anyway. Thanks again, LucasArts. Alex.

Not even. Quake's engine specs are _unbelievable_.
Then again, so is a 1995 release date. Not that I don't have faith in
our friends @ ID, but a task like this needs to be done _well_. Not rushed
(as I fear they'll do).
