For all you Doom/Heretic fans, Hexen (formerly Heretic II) will be out on October 30 accoring to Raven/Id. Check out the Rumor Mill at www.portal.com/~hleukart/rumors.html for details. The screenshots are COOL. It looks like Id did it again (will put out another great game) :) Kyle

Doom ][ didn't need a demo because doom 1 shareware showed everything you
needed to see. Extra monsters, weapons, levels, in registered version.(doom2)
If Heretic ][ is better than the first tho, I hope theres a shareware to show
us all the coo new additions. But if it's just new monsters, weapons, levels,
then its just another doom2...

My understanding is that both Raven and Rogue are kinda-sorta divisions of id software. If this is wrong . . . oops - so sorry. id is supervising Hexen development from what I read at the Rumor Mill. And if you direct order Heretic, you call id's phone service :) By the way, loved Heretic. As with most games, its a matter of personal taste and there is no "right" or "wrong" about it. Kyle Doom - keep the faith!

It looks like Id did it again (will put out another great game) :) For your information: Heretic and Hexen are primary Raven games. Since it's using an enhanced (or rather degraded) version of the Doom-engine, id might have helped out a bit too though. As for the screenshots: I don't get my hopes up. Heretic sucked... and it looks like Raven simply put in some more weapons and monsters. And just as in Heretic the wepons don't look convincing at all. I prefer a shotgun anytime! The monsters lack character somehow... and the caped crucaders I see during deathmatch are actually quite hilarious. id should never have given its engine to Raven... but well, what's done is done. And I don't *have* to play the game *grin* I do hope though that Strife makes a better use of id's Doom-engine. Greetz, RS

The monsters lack character somehow... and the caped >crucaders I see during deathmatch are actually quite hilarious. I disagree... While I wasn't crazy about Heretic at first, in time I found that the new features surpass many things seen in DOOM. Weapons like the KFC-9000 (Chicken-Bomb) make Deathmatch a unique experience. In DOOM, all enemies have a maximum of one attack/skill with the meager exceptions of the Revenant (two missile types plus close range), and the Arch-Vile (long-range fire plus resurrection). Even then, they're not too tough. Look at any of the bosses in Heretic. The Iron Liches have at least three different attacks to keep you on your toes. When fighting DOOM's Cyberdemon, you KNOW what to expect at all times. Also, you can't overlook the ability to carry items in Heretic. Very convenient. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Neal Miller | --------------------- | "This Side Up - Not Plummet Please!" mil...@rpi.edu | Southampton, PA 18966 | - the box for my Taiwanese CPU fan ---------------http://www.rpi.edu/~millen3------------------------------------

The monsters lack character somehow... and the caped : crucaders I see during deathmatch are actually quite hilarious. First, let me say, like a lot of DOOM fans I didn't care much for Heretic. I thought the colors of the textures were too bright and the weapons/monsters were not as interesting. Now, about a month ago I went to id software and John Romero showed me Hexen. It look VERY cool. The colors are darker (give the game a more ominous feel), the monsters looked rad, and the one weapon I saw (a hammer) was awesome. The game also had a few other cool improvements. There were leaves in the game that would blow around for a nice effect. Also, the programmers at Raven have apparently modified the BSP routines as there are now doors that are hinged on a Z-axis (much like a conventional door) I am not sure how the game will be overall, but this little glimpse looked very good. -- Steve Larsen lar...@sunset.cs.utah.edu I don't like stuff that sucks!
