No, you don't understand. (Gee, this is fun!)

Explain the claim that that the Plus! pack contains bug fixes.

The claim isn't that Microsoft is not going to release bug patches for
Windows, it was that the medium of delivery was going to be the Plus!
pack. As noted by someone else, the goal is to release the Plus! pack
*simultaneously* with Windows 95. Why release bug fixes at the same time
as the product? (Wise guy answers are excluded!)

The Plus! pack may eventually contain bug fixes, but I rather doubt it.
MS will also probably make then available via FTP, BBS, and sell them as well.

Really? Do you know where I can get the windoze 3.11 upgrade? I havent
been able to find it on the net...

Not that you are serious or anything, but all the new bits that comprise
the difference between Windows 3.1 and windows 3.11 *were* available at
the time on Microsoft ftp.

at the same time as the product there should be no bugfixes, unless they
have to freeze the Win95 code before the pluspack code. OTOH the plus pack
was to be released a little later (2 months ?) so by that time it could
include bugfixes

MS will probably make them bugfixes available by other means as well,
although I doubt they will make them available for free (ie FTP), given
their behaviour in the past

Huh? I can't think of one major bugfix/minor version-number change where
the patch wasn't available for free from Microsoft (let's see... DOS 6.2,
DOS 6.22, Windows 3.11, some version of Lan Manager...) for at least some
time. Hell, my sister downloaded Win3.11 from GEnie, fer crying out loud.

When MS released a couple of patches to MS-DOS 5.0, for a partition-size
related error, many of us were amazed. We had NEVER seen a free bugfix
on the MS BBS before. MS did NOT have an ftp site at the time. THe
BBS was also one of the WORST, in terms of line quality, that I've
ever called. I've made calls of 2,500 miles where I never had to worry
about download problems. Calls 500 miles due West to MS repeatedly
died in the middle of downloads.
I was so used to this behavior that after I discovered the
IBM BBS I was stunned to find CSDs going back to PC-DOS 3.xx.

That's interesting, I haven't run across an update from Dos 6.2 to dos 6.22
for under $45 dollars, certainly not on the net (not that I've looked
either). Upgrading windows 3.0 to 3.1 was a $89 pricetag at the time, I
don't know if that upgrade is now free or not.

Hell, upgrading friom Dos 3.3 to Dos 5 (er 5.1 er 5.11 er 5.2) was not
free.

Microsoft pioneered the concept of charging you to make their software work
like they told you it would work inthe first place.

Like the Plus Pack for W95. Isn't most of the stuff in the plus pack originally
supposed to be in Windows 95 (the $89 product)? Seems like a good way to get
$40 more off the consumers. Does anyone know if the W95 CDROM is full? Could
they put the Plus Pack on the CDROM? Why is the basic requirements for the
plus pack so much higher than W95?

You figure that if you pay for an operating system, you should get the COMPLETE
version, not just 3/4 of it, and then have to pay $40 more to get it complete.

Here is a list of stuff that I know is ONLY in the plus pack:

System Agent for unateended task scheduling
Desktop Themes
Font smoothing
3D pinball game
Web Browser
PC Dial-up network SERVER
Bunch of extra fonts and bitmaps

Is that worth $40 or more (I have seen it for $48.99).

Is there any difference from the Plus pack on disk and the plus
pack on CD-Rom?
