Follow up:

Tried out a few rounds of Duo mode (only one other teammate)... great
fun.  As much as I enjoyed lone wolfing, I think this might turn out
to be my favorite mode.  It helps tremendously when you've got each
other's back during enemy encounters.  I've been playing with people
from all over the world, some of which are just adept enough at the
English language to speak and understand basic commands, but it still
results in highly effective teamwork. There's something about having a
2 player team, knowing that you'll only encounter enemies two at a
time (at least early in the game) that really works.

I've only tried one squad game (4 teammates), and first impressions
are that it can get a little weird if not everyone is using their
microphone, decides to jump out of the plane at different locations,
or other things that get the team out of sync.  Much easier to stay in
sync with only two players per team.   However I plan to come back to
this and try more rounds, this isn't my final conclusion.
