They felt very "gamey", e.g., something added into the world solely for the challenge that fit very poorly into the overall setting, and ruined that feeling of immersion. They really didn't do anything that any other platforming puzzle did, except you had to do it with a clumsy motorcycle. Definitely one of the low-points of the game. I never found ramping into the bases that effective; actually, quite the opposite. It leaves you completely vulnerable and you can't shoot the bad guys and in exchange you... what, get into the base? The front door (or the not-so-hidden "back door", usually a vent of some sort) does the same thing except without painting a big target on your back. No, I definitely wasn't sold on the utility of the motorcycle in this game.
