Trade in your sixteen-bit system and get a PSX for the SAME price. Isn't that an upgrade of sorts? 4)How many companies are going to make software that only runs on a NVIDEA-equipped computer, Pentium processor, or expensive video card? Ever wonder why only the BIGGEST hits make the crossover into PCs? Awesome games for PCs are few and far between, especially arcade-style ones, because the risk goes up with the system requirements. 5)Wow, Wipeout is being released on PC! Let's see, I'll need $200 for a new processor (assuming that Compaq has begun supporting a Pentium upgrade in my model), another $180-$360 for RAM (so that I can get an acceptable frame rate, etc, I'll probably need 12 to 16 megs), $200 for a better video card (mine is VLB with 1/2 meg video RAM). Too bad a PSX-style controller hasn't been made for the PC. I guess I'll have to stick with the Gravis pad I already have. Even if my estimates are a LITTLE too high, I'm still looking at AT LEAST $500 to play Wipeout on my PC with detail, speed, and framerate even CLOSE to the awesome PS version. Trust me, just playing _Hi-Octane_ on my 486/DX66 is not a pretty sight. For arcade style games, the PSX DESTROYS the PC. The only games I'm even interested in buying for my computer are DN3D and Quake. Before those are released, I'll have already bought Twisted Metal, Tekken, Jumping Flash, Wipeout, Destruction Derby, Warhawk, Battle Arena, MK3, ESPN Extreme, and Loaded for my Playstation (and probably more than that). I wouldn't trade my computer for one, because there are so many other things that I can do with it, but it just doesn't compete as a game system. Siv P.S. I RUSHED out to buy a Playstation, and I work at a software store.
