In article <41fo78$q...@nntp.ucs.ubc.ca>, k...@unixg.ubc.ca says... >> What I would like to see is the ability to send unit to specific points (ala >> MW1) - it would be nice to have one of my 'mates sit behind a hill, shut >> down, then wait for an enemy mech to pass by to do an ambush... Here, here. Our control over Friendly mechs seems much degraded in MW2 when compared to MW1. And the "AI" used here is *very* artificial. I can't count how many times I've died from enemy fire. (a) If you choose "Attack at will," your friendlies will sit on their buts until the enemy mechs are within 200 meters. (b) If you choose "Attack my target," make *sure* your friendlies are not directly behind you at the time (!) and be sure to switch the command to "Attack at will" once they're within that 200-meter radius of the enemy units. Otherwise, as soon as that one target goes down, they'll be heading back into formation, regardless of how many enemy units are chewing on your butt. > Actually, at the very least, you can LEAD the starmate there, get him to shut > down and then ambush the other people when they go by. > But even if you did this, the enemy AI probably won't react very much to this. > I mean, if it were real pilots, they'd be sweating in their cockpits. "Oh no! > Two more mechs behind us!" With the AI, they sort of just calmly pound > you in first... without the panic. I guess all computer 'mechs are elite forces? I too have noticed the enemy's tendency to target me over any of my starmates. Add to this the friendly mech's tendency to "dance" rather than slag metal, and you soon start questioning the efficacy of adding friendly tonnage to your star. Numerous times I've added a star mate and wound up not getting as far into the mission as I'd gotten alone. --I only hope those friendlies get demoted into the technician class after my demise. . . .
