All you need for a 3D engine is to have a world that is in three dimensions. The fact that when you locate your character using the cheat that it gives you THREE coordinates, the fact that you can have more than one item at the same x,y coordinate but different z coordinates (unlike DOOM) proves that Dark Forces is a 3D engine, and talk about degrees of freedom is a COMPLETELY separate issue. Doom is 2.5D engine ONLY because it has a simulated z-axis, not because you can't jump, turn your body in weird ways, etc. To be honest, DOOM is really a 2D engine disguised as 3D, hence it is called 2.5D. Wolf didn't even try to pretend about z-axis. People seem to confuse the two items, somehow believing that you HAVE to have 6 degrees of freedom for your character to have a TRUE 3D engine, which isn't correct. If you want to call Wolf 2.1D fine, though I am not sure what that means... :-) Steven
