Straight from PC Week:

---snip---

As many as a third of the 2,500 DOS and Windows applications that Microsoft
Corp. tested for compatibility with Windows 95 displayed some problem which
either reduced functionality, required work arounds, or prevented it from
running.

Microsoft Corp. released the list around 4 p.m. Pacific Time Friday after the
close of most U.S. securities markets. Most of the applications that displayed
problems were DOS and Windows utilities, games and specialized communication
programs. ^^^^^^^

The list shows that numerous DOS games and programs have to be run in DOS mode
under Windows 95, but some can be run from an icon on Windows 95 desktop if the
user can write a custom PIF file.

---snip---

Even I was surprised to read that the numbers were so high. 67% backwards
compatibility? So much for all that crippling 16 bit code they used!
