Hallo, for me even the beginner mode seems to be to hard. My soldiers die to easy, therefore I want to cheat a little bit. Does anyone has an idea how to increase the armor stats of my men. I'm not looking for a savegame editor, but for a game editor to change theses values for all unamored troops once and forever. I'm more interested in the story than in the fighting itself.

One thing that is true, is that there isn't all much of a difference between the levels of difficulty to my mind.

If I've gotten it wrong, I recommend www.ufo-aftermath.co.uk. Otherwise, there's a significant hint/spoiler down below . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A little more... . . . . . . . . That should do it. Research Alien Alloys ASAP Then research Personal Armour Now build & equip it. Hey presto! *Satis howard_offtherails at hotmail.com

You're supposed to die until you figure out how to be cautious.

Drop loads of people into research ... Sooner or later something will come along that you can build to give your guys armour. Research is absolutely key though ... Early in the unmodified game, I'd be running a base with something like 20-25 soldiers, 50 research, 10 engineers. Expansion priority would be on getting new labs built, for more research. I'd be using 100 scientists, split 50/30/20 between different projects. After that 100 scientists, I concentrate on building up the engineers and soldiers so I can build things while maintaining a decent fighting force. Try for better guns too ... If you stick to laser based weapons (they're fairly early) then these guns don't need clips ... Makes it a bit easier to manage. For a supply of cash, I sell most of the alien artifacts I get, except for leaving one behind so I can actually research it :-) I've been away from X-Com a little while though (I'm waiting to build a machine called Slowpoke, which at 166MHz will be perfect for X-Com and Apoc). The place to go for info is Scott Jones's site, which has patches, links but primarily it has a darn fine editor. Ere we go : http://xcomutil.scotttjones.com/ Pete Lilleyman pete.lilleyman@blueyonder.co.getrid.uk (please get rid of ".getrid" to reply direct) (don't get rid of the dontspam though ;-)

I can save during tactical mission, but I have to quit to reload. This really takes too long to reload all the time.

Thanks for your strategy tips. I tried out some editor, but they only edit savegames. Ok doubleing my soliers hit points might be a good idea, but I have to redo that every time I buy new ones. Obviously the developers never heard something of XML. Ok, just a joke, but what I mean is that I cannot edit these files myself. Is there any documentation available which information are written to which offset? In the ufoedi12.zip there is some information included, but nothing helpful since I don't have a geoscape.dat.

You could try a saved game editor, like ClarkWheyr's editor: http://www.3clarks.com/ClarkWehyr/freeware.html You could make all your soldiers superhuman and give yourself all the technology and money, etc. You can also revive dead soldiers. > > > save & load, old trick works well > > Unfortunatelly there is no quicksave.
