Ufo Beginner Mode too difficult for me

Hallo,
for me even the beginner mode seems to be to hard. My soldiers die to easy,
therefore I want to cheat a little bit.
Does anyone has an idea how to increase the armor stats of my men. I'm not
looking for a savegame editor, but for a game editor to change theses values
for all unamored troops once and forever.
I'm more interested in the story than in the fighting itself.
