N.B. This message was written by Keith the Ethereal Commander
(11420...@compuserve.com (Thanks Simon for posting this for me!))

I`d just like to say thanks for everyones support on the group, as we
are becoming very well known now, and we may even (at a VERY big push) have
a say in what goes in the new (or remake as Solice says)X-COM game.
Now for business. Everybodies ideas are really interesting. I really
like Wayne Imlach's idea of a time limit on the missions. When I read what
he said about there being no ACTUAL timer, and just having hidden messages
(for want of a better word) OR having visual hints. Immediately something
sprang to my mind when I read about the "crafts propulsion system firing up"
I thought it would be great if, on one part of the UFO, a power generator
could get lit up progressively. That way, you would always need a man
keeping an eye on it?!?! And what about what happens when one (or more) of
your men is still on the UFO when it takes off, you may still have a chance
at winning the UFO over, a battle (tactical or just facts and figures (a la
Star Wars Supremacy ("trash", says Simon) during planetary attacks)) but
maybe you would need an engineer, or specially trained soldier to land it?
(Simon interferes again, he has actually made a good point, what if my good
friend Psionics lends a hand and you could psi the last alien, or alien
pilot, to land the UFO where you want it?)
The other idea which I think could be very big, is the idea of an E-mail
game mentioned by Detonate (I don`t know who gave us the original idea).
Well, I think if we got our ideas together then we could come up with a
programmable game which I may be able to do something about actually getting
it made!! Mail the group and pool all your ideas. I personally have some
skills in the programming department ((C++ to be exact) and if anyone knows
anybodies friend who can program in C++, GET IN TOUCH) and MAY, I repeat
MAY, be able to create a simple mock-up of it, which may not graphically be
AMAZING, it could even be completely text based (open to ideas). (Simon
says, "it could be based on the idea of AD+D style games, and could be
vigilated by not so much as a dungeon master, but an X-COM overseer" as he
has experience with it.) This could be run through the newsgroup by showing
who`s where, why, and who`s troops have gained experience and been promoted,
also what battles have been won/lost.
Well, I`m off now but, I`ve got a new name for us! The X-COMM's, as in
COMMunicators! Good eh! Also I`d like to make it clear that me and Simon
are different people I just use his computer to mail the group as, although
I`m on the net, I cannot access the newsgroup (I will not mention any names,
but it has the following letters in it : C,O,M,P,U,S,E,R,V, and E. Any
ideas on how I can access the newsgroups? (Mail me at my E-mail address
with any ideas regarding compuserve!))

Mail to the newsgroup with any ideas, please!
                    Keith the Ethereal Commander.

You know what I'D like to see? ("No.", you mutter.) What's X-Com based
on? C'mon, admit it. It's "Aliens" right? What made Aliens such a
classic? The fact that aliens didn't have to walk around corners, but
could rip through walls and floors, pop-up and scare the living hell out
 of you.

I'd also like to see alien "pods" which don't activate/hatch until YOU
show up, turning a cakewalk into an "uh-oh!" situation.

Finally, I wanna see a Queen. Not a Chrysalis (although they're scary as
hell), but a BIG, four square monstrosity; flailing tail, breathing fire,
and tearing up the track in front of it as all your guys just scream "OH,
SH*T!" and run around like star trek security officers.

Sorry, I've just been playing a lot of the original X-Com, and after you
get the Waypoint gun, a lot of missions lose their edge.
