Altough most games at the moment have beautiful graphics, cd-quality sound and stunning 3dfx colors, X-Com 1 (and 2) is still one of my favourites. Why? Because it's original, turn-based and very interactive. I was a bit disappointed when X-Com 4 was released. It's more an arcade-shooter then a strategy game. Hopefully the next X-Com release is a REAL follow-up to X-Com 1 and 2.... Let's go back to the good old times. Pino

I agree i loved one and two and play them a lot both on playstation and know on the PC the pc game is easier with more save slots and the name change of soldiers rocks, my friends all love beautiful graphics but i still love the squat clone like men in UFO and TFTD and prefer them to the apocalypse ones so apart from a larger variety of faces i would like to see the redone X-com keep the old Soldier look. Is there anything AFTER Apocalypse??? Well, here is my opinion: if the next X-Com is first person but *with* TU, I'd like it very much. Something like five seconds for the movement in RT, with speed changing depending on the character's speed attribute, and a stamina limit. BUT, turn-based. Let me tell you about Apocalypse: I hated it. They screwed up with X-Com's LOS, and the Surprise Movement screwed up with the turns. And, the RT tactical combat IS NOT the turn based combat. In the turn based combat, you could make your agents act like a squad, like a team. That capability is lost in the RT combat. Also, the vehicle combat in Apocalypse, though an interesting field of improvement, sucks. Tactically, it's very ackward to use. And the manual controls are some of the worse controls I have ever seen. -- Daniel C. Sobral (8-DCS) d...@newsguy.com Make me sad. Make me mad. Make me feel alright?

Yep, 5th. The fourth X-Com game is called X-Com Interceptor and it's been out for a month or two now. It's the usual X-Com base building slant, but instead of man to man combat it is a space flight sim in the spirit of X-Wing etc. So, it goes Ufo Defense, Terror from the Deep, Apocalypse, Interceptor and then the new on on the way. >Hopefully the next X-Com release is a REAL follow-up to X-Com 1 and 2.... >From what I've read on various newsgroups (including an interview with a Microprose agent, I believe), After XCOM 5 (the Space Hulk/Quake ish 1st person shooter), XCOM6 is indeed being planned, and is aimed at being in the vein of XCOM 1, 2 and 3....whatever that translates into. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the company stated that it wanted XCOM veteran fans to think that they would get some of what they want in that game. FWIW, though I loved XCOM1 more than any other game I've played, I did manage to find XCOM Interceptor enjoyable enough (more than many games I've tried), and largely because of its R&D and base-building side, which in many ways reminded me more of XCOM1 than Apoc did. the new xcom titled Alliance may be a first person shooter, but it still has enough origonal touches to make it truly origonal. It still has some Quasi- base building modes, so those that liked that aspect should be allright. The best way Ive heard it described is Xcom 1 but instead of an overhead view, its first person (meaning the battle structure is the same). I dont know whether this means realtime or if they are embracing a turn based mode but it still should be worthwhile and a definate time waster.
