Trying to get Return to Zork to run.
Need to find location of Zork info or
someone who could tell me why I can not
get the mouse to work.

Thanks,

It's a PC adventure game. Obviously a post to the wrong group!

A PC adventure game? Blimey, you IBM-compat peoples think
you've got the only computer that exists, don't you? :)

Zork was practically written using punched cards, lad.

Still a bloody funny choice of groups, though. -Xpilot- ?

Yes, exactly, and by the way, I'm no lad...

It's an Infocom game. You know like Beyond Zork? Before that there
was a series of 5 zork games. Back then (I'm talkin' Atari vs.
commodore days here) Infocom made text only adventures. Course only
*real* gamers have beaten zork :-) Sorry about the off-track history
lesson everybody. Check out the lost treasures of Infocom if you're
interested. Again sorry. Stephen

No problem, I just must have missed Zork, however I did start out
on a version of Star Trek which was text only and I had to program
into the home built computer using a series of eight toggle switches
for each command (which had to be done each time you wanted to play).
Talk about dedication, took me 20 minutes each time since there were
about 80 commands to program in using the toggles :-). Nice side
track btw, :-). Sorry everybody.

Karen (btw, I was about 11)

I think you mistakenly typed a "Z" instead of a "D". Could explain why
you're posting the question to a DOOM newsgroup. :)

As far as the mouse goes, try putting a little treadmill in his cage.
Have fun!

I found that the best way to get started is to take of from the base,
and go straight for the narrow tunnel in the upper left corner. A lot
of pilots on the Zork map don't realise that you can use the gravity
wells in there to toss your ship across very quickly, if you time it
right. Great if you're being pursued.

You need to just touch the thrust as you come into the horizontal
section, and if anyone is chasing you, drop an implosion mine as you
come around, as the glitch it causes in the flightpath of in your
attackers throws them into the wall. Admittedly, you can't use this
dodge unless you have just come back from the dead, since the extra
weight of tanks or other weapons makes that track dangerously unstable
if you've been playing a while, and you're back to using your bare
hands, or just your trusty shotgun.

Watch this dodge later on in the game, though, since the Kilrathi
there have a lot more smarts in Wing Commander 3 - The Zork
Adventures. Watch out for someone in a Vaktoth, since that shield /
firepower combo is dangerous if you're trapped in front of him. I
favour Tachyon Cannons in a Wraith for punch-vs-cost.

There are seveal FAQs around with the cheats and level descriptions,
so you should be able to find the locations fairly quickly with that.
Most of Doom - ZorkHell version 6.66's secret locations are pretty
well hidden, although getting your hands on a BFX (Big ``Flaming''
Xyzzy-gun) early in the game is worth it.

I suggest you stop trying to get the mouse support. It really will
benefit you to learn to play with the keyboard, since you get much
finer control. Getting your crosshairs on a Jrathek while panning
down a staircase so you can drop a modified cluster laser-nuke on 'em
is *really* hard with the mouse.

You ask for more info on Zork locations. Have you tried printing the
Map file out in a real small font? It isn't that big a map, you
should be able to find most of it fairly easily. Failing that, either
get a WAD editor or send away for the ``Wing Commander - Return to
Zork Hintbook''.

I hope this has been some help!

Instead of flaming people you should probably look to which groups _you_
are posting:

Newsgroups: rec.games.computer.xpilot,alt.games.wing-commander,alt.games.doom

Hope this helps!

Zoff

PS: to all XPiloteers: Zoff is online again :-)

To whomever originally asked for Zork:

If you are still looking for it go to rec.games.int-fiction.
They will help you out.
